Appointment of a full Guest Professorship »Diversity of Knowledge« for the Winter Semester 2018/2019

We are looking for applications from highly committed academics for a full-time, temporary Guest Professorship (9 teaching hours/week) in the interdisciplinary study programme »Diversity of Knowledge«. Alternatively, the allocation of two half guest professorships (co-teaching) is also possible. The position is funded by the Quality Pact for Teaching (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and is limited to the duration of the Winter Semester 2018/2019.

»Diversity of Knowledge« is a programme of interdisciplinary studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin which adds an interdisciplinary component to the academic training of students from the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities by getting them to engage with concrete objects of knowledge. Building on the idea of a Studium generale 2.0, »Diversity of Knowledge« focuses on aspects of stability, transferability and distinguishability of knowledge in a historical, contemporary and future perspective. In order to activate students’ disciplinary knowledge while at the same time questioning the limits of that knowledge, teaching in »Diversity of Knowledge« is based around work with concrete objects of knowledge (such as ›time‹, ›the radio‹, ›particle accelerator‹, ›the brain‹). Applications should thus be based on a proposal/concept for a lecture and a series of seminars around objects of knowledge that can be accessed from the perspectives of different disciplines and are suited to attract students from various fields of study. (Note: as »Diversity of Knowledge« is an optional elective for students, the proposed lecture and seminars should equally make sense as stand-alone options and as a complete package).

The guest professorship »Diversity of Knowledge« is based at the Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Techniques and comprises a teaching load of 9 h/week/semester, composed of one historical or theoretical lecture giving an overview of the subject matter, three seminars and one workshop. The courses are to incorporate practical elements in the form of project work. »Diversity of Knowledge« offers the opportunity to experiment with different teaching formats. Applicants are therefore invited to conceptually integrate innovative teaching formats.

More details on the programme, the concept, teaching modules and previous courses can be found at: bolognalab.hu-berlin.de/vielfalt-der-wissensformen.

Requirements

We are searching for highly committed academics with an interdisciplinary research profile, preferably with a dual qualification in the sciences, humanities or social sciences. Candidates are expected to play an active part in shaping the interdisciplinary study programme »Diversity of Knowledge«. The interdisciplinary constellation can also be realized as co-teaching of two half guest professorships from two complementary academic fields. Extensive teaching experience at university level and working with heterogeneous groups of students from different disciplines are desirable.

Documents to be submitted

Your application should contain: a course concept, presenting content and structure of the proposed lecture/seminars (and the key teaching methods employed); a brief CV giving details of previous employment in teaching and research to the following address by 30 April 2018:

Appointment of a part-time, temporary lecturer position in the Interdisciplinary Study Programme »Diversity of Knowledge« with focus on research on collections and exhibitions

We are looking for proposals for a temporary, part-time teaching contract (2 teaching hours/week) in the interdisciplinary study programme »Diversity of Knowledge«.

»Diversity of Knowledge« is a programme of interdisciplinary studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin which adds an interdisciplinary component to the academic training of students from the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities by getting them to engage with concrete objects of knowledge.

For the wintersemester 2018/2019, one part-time teaching contract (Lehrauftrag) in module 2: “Diversity of knowledge: analyses and methods”, is reserved for projects focusing on collections and exhibitions as expressions of knowledge and cultural techniques. For this contract, we are particularly interested in seminar proposals incorporating the collections of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The proposals here can either be based around teaching concepts involving individual collections or focus on cross-cutting, interdisciplinary issues applicable to collections more generally. A third option would be proposals exploring exhibitions as representation of systems of knowledge.
At the end of the semester, the results of the successful proposal should be presented publicly.
