Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - bologna.lab

Procedure & Jury

Selection of the annual focus

The annual focus and the corresponding selection criteria are determined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The focus is published with the announcement of the award.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs bases her decision on the topics proposed in the last nomination procedure as well as on the vote of the deans of studies.

Nomination procedure

All members of the University are entitled to make nominations. Teachers can be nominated for all courses taught at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in the current academic year.
Proposals can be submitted using an online form on the bologna.lab website until the call deadline. The justification for the proposal should relate to the teaching concept of the course.
Nominated teachers will be notified after their nomination and asked whether they are interested in further consideration. Those who wish to remain in the selection process are asked to submit a teaching concept for the nominated course to bologna.lab (lehrpbol@hu-berlin.de). Those who do not submit a teaching concept cannot be considered in the further procedure. However, the nomination will be included with the proposals for the Good Teaching Award and (if the nominees agree) documented online on the bologna.lab website.
All proposals, teaching concepts and justifications for proposals of a faculty will be made available to the deaneries in a collected form.

Selection procedure

The student councils and institutes are asked to write a statement on each nominated teaching concept of their teaching unit and send it to the dean of their faculty.
The deans' offices will make a pre-selection from the nominations within their faculty of maximum three proposals for the jury. The dean's offices write a statement on each recommended teaching concept.
The faculties' proposals ("Shortlist for the Award for Good Teaching") are informed by the bologna.lab that they have been recommended to the jury by their faculty.
The jury decides on the award on the basis of the selection criteria. It takes into account the justification for the nomination as well as the statements and teaching concepts submitted. The award winner and the nominees on the shortlist will be informed promptly after the jury's decision.

Jury

The jury for the "Award for Excellent Teaching at Humboldt-Universität" is composed of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the previous year's award winner and seven representatives from all status groups. The composition takes into account all locations of the HU as far as possible.

Award ceremony

The "Award for Excellent Teaching" is presented at the Humboldt Day for Teaching in summersemester. Those nominated for the shortlist can present their course to a broad audience in a pitch. The award winner is given the opportunity to present his/her project in detail during the acceptance speech.
