Call for Nominations "Equitable Teaching an Learning"
Humboldt-Universität’s award for excellence in teaching is an annual, thematically focused award. Nominations are open for Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin’s Award for Excellence in Teaching 2024.
For the Award for Excellence in Teaching, which this year has the motto ‘Equal Opportunities in Teaching and Learning’, is seeking teaching and learning projects that demonstrate a particular sensitivity to diversity among those involved in teaching and learning.
Which events may be nominated?
Nominations are invited for lecturers and teaching projects promoting equal opportunities at Humboldt-Universität. This can be achieved through teaching formats and concepts that address the topic in terms of content, implementation or didactics. For instance, by lecturers:
- addressing the diverse dimensions of the topic
- designing courses in such a way that they are participatory and oriented towards student activity and reflection
- creating inclusive teaching and learning environments
- designing teaching characterised by an atmosphere of appreciation, respect and trust
- taking into account the individual heterogeneity of all participants
- establishing non-discriminatory learning opportunities
- following the principle of barrier-free teaching by removing obstacles through flexible design and diverse access to academic content
- strengthen multidimensional perspectives
- reflecting diversity in knowledge and in knowledge transfer
- enabling students to acquire critical competencies for analysis, reflection and action
- offering opportunities for lifelong learning and cooperation within and outside HU
- designing teaching and learning settings that are sensitive to intersectionality
- integrating diversity as a concept in assessment and evaluation
- taking responsibility for helping to shape social change and democracy education
- designing teaching so that teachers and students are empowered to act independently and collaboratively while reflecting on their roles and the power structures inherent in the university.
Who may nominate?
All students and all HU staff members can nominate lecturers, teaching projects and courses for the Award for Excellence in Teaching.
When is the nomination deadline?
Did you take part in courses in the winter semester 24/25, summer semester 2025 or winter semester 2025/26, or do you know of any courses that are a successful example of equal opportunity teaching at HU?
Then nominate them by 12 January 2026 for the Award for Excellence in Teaching >> hu.berlin/nominieren!
All members of Humboldt-Universität can nominate other members of the university via our online nominations form. Only teaching staff with a link to an academic unit at Humboldt-Universität are eligible to receive the award. This includes professors, teaching and research staff, lecturers, lectors and student tutors. You can nominate both individual members of staff or teaching teams, as well as entire departments or academic units. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
